Surveillance, Privacy, and You

We’re all aware of how technology has seeped into our everyday lives, but do we understand the impacts of new technologies on our privacy and civil liberties?

Throughout history, surveillance technologies have been used as tools to target and oppress – from the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII to the present day Black Lives Matter movement. Now is the time to learn about the interplay between surveillance, technology, and civil liberties.

Join us for an introductory discussion with Jennifer Lee, who is the Technology & Liberty Project Manager at the ACLU of Washington. Jennifer will provide an overview of the history of surveillance, and delve into its present day uses. We’ll learn about the Tech Fairness Coalition, and what community groups are doing in WA to protect privacy. This informal presentation will have time for Q&A and people of all levels of technological understanding are welcome to participate.

Eastside For All participates in the Tech Fairness Coalition and is pleased to bring this event to community members in East King County.

More information about some of the things we’ll be discussing can be found on the Technology & Liberty page at ACLU-WA.

No registration necessary.
