Mission, Values, Practices

Join Us – Learn how you can impact your community!

Our mission is to transform East King County into a place where racial, economic, and social justice are made possible for communities of color. We do this by focusing on the local systemic changes required in our policies, places, practices, relationships, and investments.

Our Values

Equity

We center the voices, perspectives, needs, and solutions of those who are most impacted by injustice, racism, disenfranchisement, and othering. We call for the eradication of anti-Blackness in policies, practices, and belief systems. We actively confront the dynamics of privilege, bias, and racism that are present in ourselves, our partnerships, and the broader community. Join Us

Belonging

We foster a sense of community and collaboration, rooted in compassion and generosity. We value and support each other’s contributions. We strive to create welcoming spaces for everyone who has a part in accomplishing our shared goals for racial, economic, and social justice. Join Us

Integrity

We show up with sincerity and intentionality. We hold ourselves accountable to stay true to our mission and commitments.  We own and learn from our mistakes. We honor ancestral and community wisdom by seeking ways to align with the history, contributions, and legacy of those who came before us. We remember where we came from and who we are. Join Us

Power

We hold responsibility for change within our circles of influence. We foster a sense of agency, authority, and self-determination, amplifying our shared power. Join Us

Transformation

We value the ability of individuals and systems to change in ways that make racial justice possible. We seek lasting, positive change that redefines personal/relational/systemic ways of being and behaving. We support ourselves and others through the inevitable discomfort, tension, and uncertainty that precedes change and rebirth. We understand and support the developmental process of  individuals, communities, and systems. Join Us

Adaptability and Growth

We value flexibility and resourcefulness in the face of changing social, economic, political and cultural environments. We tend to the developmental process in individuals and systems. Our ability to adapt is rooted in ancestral wisdom and intergenerational resilience. Join Us

Our Practices

Collaborative and Restorative Relationships

We convene community members, tending to the “connecting spaces” between different groups, cultures, racial groups, and sectors. We work to restore and repair relationships when harm occurs due to inequities and oppression. We build mutually supportive relationships through joint action and innovation that create local institutional change. Join Us

Solidarity

One of the most insidious impacts of racism is its ability to turn historically marginalized communities against one another. We work collectively because we recognize that each of us has a stake in ending all forms and systems of oppression. We are stronger together. Join Us

Courageous Actions

We challenge ourselves and others to lean into our learning edges and push past our comfort zones. We speak our truth and practice holding others’ truths even when (especially when) it is painful to do so. In this way, we embrace conflict as a generative force – a way to foster right actions and right relationships in our community. Join Us

We’re grateful to the Movement Strategy Center for their transformative movement building practices that guide and inspire our work.
