Kirkland Planning Commission Meeting

The Kirkland Planning Commission meets at 6 pm on the second and fourth Thursday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 123 5th Ave. 

You can watch or participate in regular meetings and study sessions via Zoom, either by calling 253-215-8782 or online here (webinar ID 840 3881 2324, passcode 114965). The meetings are recorded and posted on the City’s website.

Planning staff will present 3 options for parking changes (listed below), discuss the options, and give input to the staff about what they’d like to see in the ordinance. Planning staff will bring a draft ordinance to the March 12 Planning Commission meeting, which will include a public hearing. If you wish to submit comments to the Planning Commission, please send an email to planningcommissioners@kirkland.wa.gov!

• Option 1: Amend the zoning code as soon as possible to match Senate Bill 5184 (effective January 2027), consolidate parking requirement information, and create new separate bicycle parking requirements. This option is favored by all councilmembers.
• Option 2: Include everything from Option 1, and remove parking requirements from the 85th Street Station Area to incentivize development. This option is supported by most councilmembers.
• Option 3: Add to either Option 1 or Option 2 a limited exemption to waive parking requirements for expansion of an existing commercial building. This option is favored by all councilmembers.
